Lunds Universitet har via en LOU-upphandling 2010 tilldelat Peab och Wihlborgs byggherreuppdraget för MAX IV-projektet. Som ett led i genomförandet av projektet har Peab och Wihlborgs gemensamt bildat bolaget Fastighets AB ML4 (ML4). ML4 kommer att genomföra, äga och förvalta Max IV-anläggningen. Lunds Universitet har förbundit sig att hyra anläggningen i 25 år.

Projektet utförs som ett samverkansprojekt där hyresgästen (Lunds Universitet), byggherren (ML4) och totalentreprenören (Peab) samverkar.
